Parent Privacy Notice

Penny Drop Maths Limited is responsible for the parent and child personal information described in this notice. We are registered in England and Wales under company number 17348480, with registered office at 6 Vicarage Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, England, B15 3ES.

You may contact us about privacy at support@pennydropmaths.co.uk or through our Contact page.

This notice is for the parent or carer who creates and manages the household account. Our separate Child Privacy Notice explains the same approach for children in school Years 4, 5 and 6.

Our approach

The parent or carer controls the household account. Child profiles and learning information are private to that household.

Designed around children: we use a child’s first name, school year and learning activity to provide the diagnostic and personalised pathway.

We do not ask for a child’s email address, telephone number, date of birth, school name, photograph or precise location. We do not sell personal information, use child learning information for advertising, provide child messaging or publish child scores or comparisons.

Information we use

  • Parent and household: name, email address, country, account identifiers, sign-in and parent-PIN records, and confirmation that you have authority to create each child profile.
  • Child profile: first name, school year, profile identifier and connection to the household account.
  • Diagnostic and learning: answers, “I don’t know” selections, results, likely learning gaps, personalised pathway, practice activity and progress.
  • Subscription and payments: plan, child limit, invitation or referral details, access and renewal dates, Stripe identifiers, payment status, amount, invoice and receipt details. Stripe handles payment credentials.
  • Contact and records: service-email delivery, support, feedback and privacy requests, Terms and Privacy Notice versions, timestamps and cookie choices.
  • Technical and service: essential-cookie identifiers, IP address, device and service events, access logs and security records where generated.

Information comes from you, from your child’s use of the service, from Penny Drop Maths systems and from providers such as Stripe that help deliver the service.

Parent account details, child profiles and answers are needed to provide the service. Payment information is needed only when you begin a paid subscription or an invitation offer that later becomes paid.

Personalised learning

Penny Drop Maths analyses a child’s answers and learning activity to identify likely maths gaps and choose educational content to show next. This supports learning and does not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.

The parent or carer can see the results after parent verification and can ask us to correct profile information or review how information has been handled.

Who receives information

We share information only as needed to provide and protect Penny Drop Maths or to meet legal requirements. Recipients include:

  • Stripe, which handles payment methods and provides subscription, invoice and payment-status information;
  • providers supporting hosting, databases, sign-in, email, monitoring, support and backups;
  • professional advisers where their work requires it; and
  • courts, regulators or public authorities where disclosure is legally required.

Provider access is limited to the service they perform. If information is processed outside the UK, we use an applicable UK adequacy regulation or approved contractual safeguard and complete the required data-protection assessment. You may ask us for more information about a relevant safeguard.

Your data protection rights

Parents, carers and children have rights over their own personal information. Depending on how the information is used, these include the rights to:

  • receive clear information and ask for a copy;
  • correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • ask for deletion or restricted use;
  • object to use based on legitimate interests;

Requests about a child

A parent or carer may make a request about a child’s information where appropriate. We consider the child’s rights, best interests and understanding, together with the requester’s authority and the circumstances.

A child can also ask a parent or carer for help or use the route explained in the Child Privacy Notice.

Protecting information

We use technical and organisational measures appropriate to parent and child information. Access is limited to authorised people and providers. Parent reports, billing, child management and privacy controls are protected by parent verification and account authorisation.

Stripe handles payment credentials. Penny Drop Maths keeps only the payment and subscription references needed to manage access and records.

You may raise a privacy concern or complaint through our Contact page or by emailing support@pennydropmaths.co.uk. We acknowledge data protection complaints within 30 days, look into them and explain the outcome.

We may update this notice if our service or use of personal information changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated. If a change materially affects how we use personal information, we will tell affected users before it takes effect.

Privacy for children

Penny Drop Maths uses some information about you to help with your maths learning.

This page explains what we know, why we use it and who can help you.

What we know about you

We know:

  • your first name;
  • your school year;
  • your answers, including when you choose “I don’t know”; and
  • your results, learning pathway and progress.

How this helps

We use this information to:

  • find the maths skills you may need help with;
  • decide what you should learn next; and
  • show you and your parent or carer how your learning is progressing.

Your parent or carer controls the account

Your parent or carer creates and controls the account. They can see and manage your profile, results and learning information.

Your information is private to your household. Other children and families cannot see it.

Information we do not need

We do not need:

  • your email address;
  • your date of birth;
  • the name of your school;
  • your photograph; or
  • your exact location.

What we do not do

We do not:

  • show your scores publicly;
  • rank you or compare you publicly with other children;
  • let children send messages to each other;
  • use your information to show you advertisements; or
  • sell your information.

How long we keep your learning information

We keep your learning information while you use Penny Drop Maths and normally for 12 months after your access ends.

If you only use the diagnostic, we normally keep your learning information for 12 months after your most recent diagnostic or learning activity.

After that, we delete it or make it anonymous. Anonymous means that it can no longer be linked to you, your parent or carer, or your household.

We may keep a particular record for longer only when the law requires this or while we deal with an unresolved complaint or look into possible fraud.

Questions or help

If you have a question or are worried about your information, you can ask your parent or carer for help.

You or your parent or carer can also contact Penny Drop Maths through our Contact page or email support@pennydropmaths.co.uk.
